What to expect

If you choose to study full-time (two subjects per online study period), you can complete the program in six online study periods (approximately eleven months).

If you choose to study part-time (one subject), you can complete the program within twelve online study periods (approximately two years). International students must study face-to-face or be overseas to study online due to visa restrictions.

As part of your studies, you'll create an ePortfolio that will contribute to gaining future employment. The subjects allow you to reflect on how you can apply what you've learned in your professional role.

Academic Integrity Module (AIM)

AIM is a not-for-credit subject that students are required to complete at the commencement of their first semester. The subject is designed to enhance the student's knowledge and awareness of issues concerning academic integrity.
  • Academic Integrity Module
    This subject introduces students to the principles of academic integrity in the context of La Trobe University's values and policy. Students learn what their responsibilities are in relation to maintaining ethical standards in all aspects of academic work and the potential ramifications for academic misconduct according to the Academic Integrity Policy. Activities and quizzes are provided which are designed to develop an understanding of the concepts of cheating, plagiarism and collusion. Topics include an explanation of how the text-matching tool 'Turnitin' is used at La Trobe, and where to get help and where to go to develop referencing skills

  • Management Finance
    This subject is designed to provide students with knowledge and skills in financial management. The central theme deals with advanced understanding of the basics of internal financial management, and how financial policy affects risk and profitability in the growth of a firm, and hence the value of the firm. Students consider the management finance subject, potentially its goal of maximization of the value of the firm through management of three key decision areas, being, valuation, financing and dividend payout. In turn, this requires a consideration of the requisite debt and equity financing, and the need for efficient management of working capital to ensure adequate liquidity and timely cash flows.

  • Values, Ethics and Diversity in Organisations
    This subject is designed to develop students' critical thinking and research skills to contribute to an informed analysis of the role of values, ethics and diversity in contemporary organisations. The concept of workplace diversity is introduced and evaluated with particular regard to the most pressing demographic issues in the Australian and global contexts. Through the use of ethical theories, the subject aims to develop students' abilities to re-frame organisational practices and to include ethical considerations in organisational decision-making.     This subject is delivered in an online model and provides you with a critical appreciation of the role and functions of accounting within organisations, and in the broader context within which organisations operate. These functions include the use of both financial and management accounting: in decision-making; for reporting; and to meet the accountability expectations of various parties.   • Organisational Analysis
    This subject aims to explore and analyse different philosophical perspectives and approaches to organisational design and change. It will encourage a critical evaluation of current thinking on organisational design, structuring and change approaches. By examining arguments and assumptions underpinning key philosophies that are used to 'diagnose' organisations, it will explore and challenge the tools and techniques each prescribe for designing organisations and implementing change interventions. Through critical application of different philosophical perspectives to practical organisational change case studies, students will be encouraged to move beyond prescriptive, paradigm-centred theories of organising, and learn to understand and manage the opportunities and constraints each perspective offers in designing innovative, flexible, and adaptive organisations.

  • Business Analysis and Modelling
    This subject aims to provide you with a strong foundation in quantitative skills for effective managerial decision-making. Throughout the subject the emphasis will be on two areas: learning conceptual knowledge through modelling and problem-solving (using manual and computer application software) and critical thinking through application of these models in case analysis and discussion. Quantitative techniques and concepts have had a dramatic impact on managerial decision-making in finance, marketing and operations by assisting the manager in the process of making scientific, informed and rational decisions. It is common for decision makers in the modern business world to be overwhelmed by the vast amounts of data that accumulate on customers, products, markets and internal operations. It is therefore important that they familiarise themselves and become comfortable and competent in data analysis and modelling tools.

  • Entrepreneurship
    Entrepreneurship is a symbol of business tenacity and achievement. Once the province of small business, leading edge corporate activity now involves an infusion of entrepreneurial thinking into large organisational structures. This change represents a response to the growing number of new and sophisticated competitors, as well as recognition that firms continue to lose some of their most talented people, who leave to become small business entrepreneurs. In this subject students examine the entrepreneurial perspective, which frequently combines leadership, innovation and the assumption of risk beyond security. Students will then work through the challenges involved in transforming an innovation or idea into a new and vibrant business venture.
